Another Christian group, this time at Harvard University, was recently accused of discrimination for – ready – believing in the teachings of the Bible and striving to live by its standards.
Remember this verse from John 17:3:
This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
The earliest established colleges in the U.S. were saturated with Christian influence and instruction. Believers in Christ once had a strong, positive, moral influence on culture and freedom to practice their faith. Not anymore.
Harvard University was founded in 1636 by ministers with the stated goal to train clergy and other Christian leaders. Ten out of the first twelve Harvard presidents were ministers, and systematic theological instruction was added in 1721!
Just recently however, the Christian group “Harvard College Faith and Action” was placed on a one year probation after asking one of its leaders to step down for being in an open same-sex relationship. Adhering to such standards in the Bible however, violates the Student Organization Policy Guide.
The group was told to disaffiliate from the Christian Union, its parent organization whose Statement of Ethics includes, “The reaffirmation that sex belongs only in the context of marriage between a man and a woman.”
Even though the group is against any form of premarital sex, they were suspended for violating Harvard’s nondiscrimination policy. The left is simply enforcing its intolerant groupthink on others.
Writing for the Christian Post, researcher Ron Henzel stated:
“Like most of Western academia today, Harvard drinks deeply from the wells of dogmatic pluralism which teaches that anyone who makes exclusive truth-claims must be a hateful person and is therefore to be hated.”
The student paper recently accused Harvard College Faith & Action of hate and homophobia for giving a platform to a former lesbian who converted to Christianity. Repentance and truth are no longer popular messages. That goes for biology and science as well.
Last year Harvard released a student guide suggesting gender can change from day to day, and went so far as to claim, “Transphobic misinformation is a form of systemic violence.”
In 2015, students were able to register using “gender-free” pronouns. As early as 2009, schools like the University of Vermont allowed students pick their gender pronouns.
Great Americans like John Hancock, Sam Adams, John Adams, and John Quincy Adams graduated from Harvard. The university was named after the late pastor John Harvard, and back in 1692, held the motto “Truth for Christ and the Church” (Veritas Christo et Ecclesiae)
In fact, Harvard’s “Rules and Precepts” once included the following:
“Let every student be plainly instructed and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and studies is to know God and Jesus Christ, which is eternal life (John 17:3) and therefore, to lay Christ… as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning…”
But it didn’t take long for liberals such as Unitarian Universalists to infest American colleges. The very institution that presupposed education be based on Scripture, the starting point for wisdom and knowledge, removed Christ and the Church from its mission, leaving only one word: “Veritas.”
Not even the second Great Awakening in America (1790-1840) could revive Harvard. So whose truth are they teaching young people today?
Psalm 117:2 says “The truth of the Lord is eternal.” Our culture has become hostile toward those who believe in Jesus Christ, and He warned His followers we will have trouble in this world, “but take heart,” Jesus said, “I have overcome the world.” The Apostle John wrote:
We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. 1 John 4:14
He is only a Savior of those who place their trust in Him, and in the end, Truth wins.
